IVAR MALAI - PALANI TALUK - DINDUGAL DISTRICT




IVAR MALAI - HISTORICAL PLACE - 12 KM FROM PALANI : This hill is named as Aivar malai and Ayiramalai. At the foot of this hill, a natural cavern is found which served as an abode of Jain monks. On the face of the rock just about the height of 12 ft, portraits of Jaina Tirthankaras are carved out. These sculptures belong to 9th –10th century CE. Accananthi Indirasena, Mallisena and a lady preceptor Avananthi Kurathi carved these bas-relief sculptures. This Jain basthi had close contact with other basthis in Madurai region. These sculptures are assignable to 9th - 10th century CE.

    It is necessary to take advice from specialist archaeologists,how preserve it in better manner?
